Dead Ball
If a ball is dead, a referee shall make a verbal call declaring a dead ball. Possession of the ball will then be given to the opposite team.
Players may only leave the court to collect a dead ball after a referee has given permission. Players may only retrieve one ball at a time and must return immediately through the backcourt.
Any deliberate delay in recovering a 'dead' ball will be considered unsportsmanlike conduct and the player will be out.
A player or returning player must return to the court (through the backcourt) before making an attempt. A player recovering a dead ball is not in play and must have returned to the backcourt before any attempt on that player is valid.
